The legislature adjourned regular session on Friday, August 31 after a busy week of last minute deals on major legislative overhauls to the state’s workers’ compensation structure and pension reform for public employees. While BayBio monitored both of those proposals and their effect on the business environment in the Golden State, most of the major issues affecting the life sciences industry were wrapped before the closing hours of session.
In 2012, BayBio took positions on 23 pieces of legislation. We are happy to report that all four bills that the association opposed failed passage out of the legislature. Of the 19 bills that BayBio supported, 11 of those passed out of the legislature (we will know exactly how many of those get signed into law no later than September 30.) Below is a list of the bills that BayBio had official positions, and the outcome.
With the rollout of the new policy section of BayBio’s website, all bill information can now be accessed online here. This information will be updated in real time when the legislature reconvenes in January 2013. Please contact Ritchard Engelhardt, BayBio’s vice president of public policy, with any questions or concerns at ritchard@baybio.org.
